Registration for FOMEMA medical examination for new foreign workers should be completed within seven (7) working days from their arrival date.
For a renewal, you may initiate the registration at least three (3) months before the expiry of your foreign worker’s current work permit.
The government has implemented for all foreign workers to undergo a mandatory FOMEMA medical exanimation yearly, effective 16 December 2023.
Yearly medical examination is mandatory for foreign workers to ensure their health remains in good condition throughout their employment in Malaysia and at the same time, curb the spread of communicable diseases in the country.
FOMEMA is operating on behalf of the Ministry of Health Malaysia to manage and operate a comprehensive Foreign Workers Medical Examination System in Peninsular Malaysia and Labuan. We work with a wide network of over 3,100 panel clinics and 140 laboratories within Peninsular Malaysia and the Federal Territory of Labuan to ensure the criteria set by the Ministry of Health Malaysia are being adhered to.

There are two possible reasons why you may have encountered this:
FOMEMA has no say in or able to propose the clinic/doctor selection for foreign worker’s medical examination.
To facilitate the selection by employers, detailed listings of the panel of registered doctors are publicly displayed at the Doctor Availability page on FOMEMA’s website.
When employers select a registered doctor, the X-ray facility is pre-assigned to that doctor as indicated in the FOMEMA Medical Examination form. X-ray clinics are assigned to doctors upon their registration with FOMEMA, based on criteria established by the Ministry of Health Malaysia.

FOMEMA will be reviewing the report before can be released to Immigration Department of Malaysia within 7 working days from the date of examination.

Appeal for blood group discrepancy is not allowed. However, employers may proceed to register again for a full medical examination.
This is usually because the foreign worker details you registered in FOMEMA does not match with the details in Immigration Department of Malaysia. Such as passport number, gender, date of birth, name, nationality.

The amendment process will take up to three (3) working days.
You are advised to cross the top of your personal documents with “For FOMEMA use only” to protect your personal data.
If the foreign worker’s status has expired, you will need to purchase the form again.
There are scenarios for a worker whose status has expired:

Pending Select Clinic means you have yet to select the clinic for the FOMEMA medical examination. Please go to “Registration History” and select clinic.
Pending Examination means you have yet to go to FOMEMA’s panel clinic for the FOMEMA medical examination. Please proceed to the selected clinic to undergo the FOMEMA medical examination.
Pending Lab and X-ray Transmission means there is no result transmitted from laboratory and x-ray clinics.
Pending X-ray Transmission means there is no result transmitted from x-ray clinic.
Pending Lab Transmission means there is no result transmitted from the laboratory.
Pending for Certification denotes that your clinic is yet to transmit the medical examination result to FOMEMA. Please check with your clinic to verify your status.
FOMEMA Review means that the clinic has transmitted the result to FOMEMA for review before the final result can be released to Immigration Department of Malaysia. The final result will be available within five (5) working days after the certification.
Suitable indicates that the foreign worker is fit for employment. You may proceed to Immigration Department of Malaysia for permit renewal.
Unsuitable indicates that the foreign worker is not fit for employment.
Expired means that the medical result of the foreign worker has exceeded 180 days from the examination date or the validity of medical form has expired.
Cancelled means that the Employer has requested for a refund.
The FOMEMA medical examination form is valid for 30 days from the payment date.
The medical examination results for foreign workers from FOMEMA will be available at the Immigration Department of Malaysia for only 180 days from the date the examination is conducted.
Under normal circumstances, FOMEMA can transmit the medical status certification to the Immigration Department of Malaysia Headquarters within seven (7) working days from the date of examination.
The timeframe for sending a foreign worker back to their country of origin can be confirmed with the Immigration Department of Malaysia.
Doctors can only conduct a limited number of medical examinations per day. Generally, a comprehensive examination following our standard procedure takes around 15 minutes. To cater to a large number of workers, we suggest scheduling appointments with the doctor in advance.
FOMEMA medical examination is a screening process rather than a conclusive diagnosis. FOMEMA adheres strictly to the criteria set by the Ministry of Health Malaysia. Non-panel doctors may not meet the necessary standards for determining suitability for employment in the country.
For example, if workers show signs of Pulmonary Tuberculosis (PTB) or old PTB that could potentially reactivate. According to the Ministry of Health Malaysia, if there is any indication of an infectious disease, the worker will be deemed UNSUITABLE for employment, even if the disease is not active during the medical examination.
The three (3) additional tests were implemented as mandatory for foreign workers in alignment with the latest health guidelines set by the Ministry of Health Malaysia. This implementation ensures that our medical examinations remain current and aligned with the evolving landscape of health risks and we are able to curb the spread of communicable diseases and maintain public safety.

FOMEMA’s medical examination applies to blue collar foreign workers only as guided by the Ministry of Health Malaysia.
Presenting the foreign worker’s original passport is crucial for identity verification purposes to prevent identity fraud, and eliminate attempts by irresponsible parties/employers using substitutes to undergo the medical examination on behalf of unhealthy workers. It is our Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that doctors must not carry out the medical examination unless the identity of the foreign worker is confirmed.
Other forms of identification materials, such as a copy of foreign worker’s original passport, FOMEMA medical card, Immigration Department of Malaysia card, company employee identification card and foreign worker’s source country ID, are not acceptable for identity verification purposes.
We highly encourage employers to accompany their foreign workers for their medical examination at the designated clinic. This can help ease the process, especially in cases of language barriers, and ensure that employers are aware of any important information or conditions related to their foreign workers’ health.

Yes, you may change the clinic after medical registration process is completed. However, we will deduct RM27 per worker from the full medical registration fee for service fee done by FOMEMA. The balance of the refund will be credited to the registered employer’s bank account within 14 working days.
